EXPERIENCE THE ENVISION DIFFERENCE

When it’s time to build a new deck, there are a lot of factors to consider. Perhaps most importantly is what material you choose to create that perfect outdoor living space to spend time with family and friends. The Envision Difference makes up three different components that helps our composite decking stand out from the rest.

Our random grain patterns never repeat across a single deck board. The leading competitor’s pattern repeats every 37-3/8 inches. That’s up to 5 times on each 16 ft. board.

Competitors’ extruded boards have an embossed grain pattern on the board surface. We press the grains into the composite deck board to produce a unique natural wood-like appearance.

Composite Decking FAQ

Whether you’re interested in learning more about composite decking or looking for the right material for an outdoor living project, it’s natural to have questions. That’s why we’re here to provide the answers to the most frequently asked questions about composite decking.

Take a look below to have your questions about composite decking answered and be sure contact our team if you need any more information.

  • Composite decking is a manufactured material that is made of wood fibers wrapped in plastic and typically held together with a bonding agent. While most decks use treated lumber for the framing and foundation, using composite decking on the surface offers outdoor living spaces enhanced durability and style.
  • One of the main advantages of using composite decking is that its average lifespan is 25 to 30 years, with a good chance of lasting even longer. Why is this the case? It’s because composite decking is extremely durable and requires the least maintenance compared to other products on the market.
  • Composite decking is made from a plastic film usually comprised of polypropylene or polyethylene that’s blended with natural wood fibers to create a durable material. Plus, all Envision composite decking is made with an EverGrain core. This unique element creates composite decking that’s more resistant to splitting, splinters, insects, and rot.
  • While traditional wood is still one of the most popular choice for decking materials, it often struggles to hold up over the years without a strict maintenance routine. Even though composite decking has a higher up-front cost, the material is known for its durability and low maintenance. Envision composite decking boards for example even have a deep, non-repeating grain, that replicates the beauty found in nature.
  • On average, composite decking costs between $35 to $65 dollars per square foot. While composite decking can be more costly up front than traditional wood, it offers higher durability and less maintenance. Plus, Envision Outdoor Living offers a variety of composite decking collections that can fit almost any budget.
    • With Envision composite decking, it is not recommended to use rock salt. It’s best to let the ice melt naturally to avoid the risk of the rocks damaging or scratching the surface of the deck.
  • It’s usually best to let the ice melt off your composite deck naturally if possible. On the occasions where you need to clean off a composite deck in the winter, using a push broom to clear the snow is a great choice. Be sure to avoid using any shovels with a metal edge. These tools can bite into the deck causing damage. You’ll also want to clean off any leftover residue from ice melting as soon as possible.
  • Unlike a traditional wooden deck, Envision composite decking does not need to be water sealed. All a composite deck needs a regular washing and clearing of any debris.
  • Some composite decking can be painted but Envision Outdoor Living does not recommend it. Envision composite decking collections have a color combination for nearly any style, and sports a deep, non-repeating grain.
  • You can power wash Envision composite decking, but it’s important to use a power washer with less than 1000 psi at the nozzle. For the best results, it helps to use a wide tip nozzle and holding the machine at least 12 inches off the deck surface. With Envision composite decking, only a light cleaning with a lower pressure power washer is enough to keep outdoor living spaces looking great.
    • Composite decking made by Envision Outdoor Living is not hard to install. Envision deck boards are finished products, meaning you won’t have to cut around imperfections like you do with traditional wood. Plus, Envision composite decking come with detailed installation instructions created by outdoor living experts. Whether you’re doing a home DIY project or an experienced contractor, installation is easier since all Envision decking collections have the same dimensions.
  • Envision composite decking is the only decking on the market that use compression molding technology during the manufacturing process. This proprietary process uses tremendous heat to create a strong bond between the cap and the core. It also presses a deep non-repeating grain into each deck board, creating composite decking that captures a natural beauty while also being durable. The density of the board has a better feel for anyone walking on it.
  • At Envision Outdoor Living, we believe that the compression molding process produces a board that can stand the test of time. The compression technology also gives us the opportunity to put a deep non-repeating grain pattern into the product that offers a more realistic look. It’s a tried-and-true method that Envision has been using to create composite decking that’s a finished product.
  • The simple answer is that Envision composite decking doesn’t need to be wrapped on all 4 sides. All our deck boards are built with the longstanding EverGrain Core. While some manufacturers recommend wrapping or sealing the edges of their deck boards, Envision is uncompromising when it comes to the quality of the core material in our capped boards.
