Once upon a time, designers ruled the world of fashion, but today, consumers are more informed than ever before, they know what they like and are not afraid to say so. The result is that where people once jumped on trends because of the designers associated with it, now it’s much more about personal style, with consumers often leading design trends, rather than following them.

2024 has seen a number of high-profile clothing brands struggling to make an impact, and when design icons such as the world-famous Birkin Bag is beginning to lose its luster, it is a sign that the industry itself is transforming rapidly. While some of this is tied to economic uncertainty, if we look beyond all the dramatic headlines about sales slumps, we can see something a bit different. While the big names still dominate, and industry leading designers make all the headlines, men and women’s sustainable apparel is now so much more. Smaller companies like TJ Apparels, have become something different, a genuine alternative that consumers are seeking out. I can only speak for myself of course, but I see so many who share my experience, simply so passionate about fashion and clothing design that I wasn’t prepared to compromise my vision and set out to create something that I love, in the hope that others shared my enthusiasm.
